This question is such a difficult question for a missionary. Many have approached us as a family and have asked us this question. How can we help you? or "what is you biggest need?" There are so many in this world that want to be a blessing and it is our job as missionaries to be prepared for these questions as it wouldn't be possible for us to live in this country and do God's work full time if it wasn't for those who wanted to be a blessing to us.
Now in the past, we have often not been very specific about this answer. Often we would answer with something similar to; " we have been so blessed, and we live off little, so if you would like to help we would love the help". But we were never very specific.
Now we have embarked on a new journey that is stretching our growth and producing some needs that we would love to present to all those that have been such a blessing in the past and would love to continue to bless us and our future.
Our number one focus is our transportation here in Ecuador. We were so blessed by many to have been able to purchase a motorcycle in Honduras. Fortunately, we were able to sell this motorcycle and this is going to be a great start for us to buy this next vehicle. We currently have a need to be able to travel to the capital city, Quito, for all our residency paperwork. This would prevent us from having to leave the country every so many months. As we live in the Jungle, this city is about 4 hours up the mountain on a very curvy and dangerous road. Often many get sick on the bus and planning out the right days while not missing many work days has its difficulties.
As Ecuador has such an affordable mechanical labor, even used cars can be expensive. Fortunately Monica has a family member that wants to help us out. He wants to sell us a used car in great condition. This would be great for us in the future as we continue to grow. But we need help in order to be able to purchase this car. Asking price is $7,000. Car is worth $12,000 here in Ecuador. This would be a huge blessing for us.
We have been able to sell our motorcycle that was gifted to us in Honduras for the same price we bought it for, and we have been blessed by an individual who wants to do a matching grant for $2000 dollars. So we will need help reaching this grant amount. With the money from the motorcycle and the grant that will need to be matched of 2000 dollars, we should be just shy of our goal to be able to purchase this family vehicle.
Another focus for us is getting settled into a new living environment. We left Honduras with six pieces of luggage. This is all our belongings as we understand we have to start all over again. (Such the life of a missionary) Starting in a new place with very little can once again become a challenge. So anyone with a desire to help us get ourselves settled, so we can purchase the necessities of furnish a home.
And the last focus that we have and need some help with is the paperwork required to get the non-profit legalized. This is very important for us to start right away. Both in the states and Ecuador, non profits have been becoming harder and harder to establish. There are many reason why, and I wont get into it much, but because of the time period to make Little Steps of Faith a legal non-profit, we would love to get the process going sooner. If you feel this is where you would love to be a blessing, we would love to have your help as we need to start right away. The IRS application itself will cost $850.
Now you may be thinking, I would really like to help with one or more of these three areas. Let me explain how this can be done. We need help in every area, but some will want to focus more on one specific area more then another. This is great. Here is what we can do.
For Example: If you have a heart to help us get a car for transportation you can:
A) send a check with any amount, but in the memo line of the check write (Kelvin and Monica, "CAR") following the instructions on the DONATE PAGE
B) Send us an email asking specific questions of the vehicle we are interested in, or
C) Contact us on our website (www.littlestepsoffaith.org) and ask us specific questions.
These steps can be used on getting us settled into our new home and also for costs of specific information on what is needed for the non-profit.
Once again, this would not be possible without those of you who have invested in us to follow out what God's plan is for our lives. We also really appreciate all the prayers and advice throughout this transition time period and we look forward to more connection as we continue to grow.
Thank you for partnering with us in prayer!
